Out in Baishan Village, Taihe Town, on the green northern edge of Guangzhou's Baiyun District, Yihe Farm is a countryside favourite serving honest, home-style Cantonese farmhouse cooking (农家菜 · 私房粤菜). It's the kind of place locals happily drive out to — for the fresh air, the easy-going setting, and Cantonese flavours done the proper, old-fashioned way.
The food is hearty and made for sharing, perfect for a big family table or a gathering of friends after a long trail. Local favourites include:
- 土茯苓浸鸡 — free-range chicken poached in a sweet, nourishing tu-fu-ling herbal broth, the meat silky and tender
- 香煎藕饼 — pan-fried lotus-root cakes, crisp outside and soft within
- 烧肉炒鲜笋 — savoury roast pork stir-fried with fresh, sweet bamboo shoots (dangerously good with rice)
- …plus rice-noodle rolls (猪肠粉), steamed grass carp (蒸皖鱼), steamed pig's tail (蒸猪尾), and other proper country classics.
And when summer rolls around, there's a real bonus: a huge swimming pool on site (charged separately), open from June through September — just the thing to cool off in after a hot day on the trail.
